Eduardo Perez , better known as the supervillain El Macho , is the main antagonist of Illumination's fourth feature film Despicable Me 2 , the second installment in the Despicable Me franchise.
He is a former supervillain who kidnaps Felonious Gru 's minions and turns them into feral killing machines so that they can help him conquer the world.
Twenty years prior to the events of Despicable Me 2 , El Macho was a supervillain who had a reputation for terrorizing Mexico and committing heists with his bare hands. One day, El Macho allegedly committed suicide presumably to get his enemies off his back in the most macho way possible; riding a live shark into the mouth of an active volcano with pounds of dynamite strapped to his chest. No one was ever able to retrieve his body.
Unbeknownst to the outside world, El Macho had actually faked his death and gone into hiding. He moved to America, got married, had a son named Antonio, and opened a very successful Mexican restaurant named "Salsa y Salsa" in the Paradise Shopping Mall.
In the present day, a highly powerful mutagen known as PX is stolen along with the secret laboratory where it is being developed by a mysterious aircraft using a giant magnet. The Anti-Villain League recruits the former supervillain Felonious Gru now a jelly manufacturer to seek out the culprit along with undercover agent Lucy Wilde. They are assigned to infiltrate the Paradise Shopping Mall and find out who it is.
During their first day on the job, Gru and Lucy meet Eduardo Perez and he tells them about his upcoming Cinco de Mayo party. Just as he is leaving, Gru recognizes him as El Macho and decides to break into his restaurant with Lucy to see if they can find anything suspicious. That night, after breaking in, they are spotted by Eduardo's pet chicken El Pollito , who happens to be the restaurant security guard.
After Lucy subdues the chicken, they break into the kitchen but find nothing. Eduardo soon returns and they barely manage to escape. The next day, Eduardo meets up with Gru and his daughters at Salsa y Salsa. Eduardo notices that Margo has developed a crush on his son Antonio and invites the family to the big Cinco de Mayo party at his mansion.
At the party, he notices that Gru is quite sad, as Lucy has been relocated to Australia. Eduardo sympathizes with him and tells him that he has also gone through some tough times, reasoning that "there's much more to us than meets the eye. Gru eventually reaches a secret room hidden deep inside the house and runs into Eduardo dressed in his El Macho regalia, leading him to realize that El Macho truly is alive.
El Macho announces that he is "making a spectacular return to evil" and brings in Gru's elderly assistant Dr. Nefario , who is now working for him. Nefario reveals that he has been kidnapping Gru's Minions and using the PX mutation formula to turn them into an army of indestructible killing machines with purple fuzzy hair.
El Macho proclaims that he will use the minions to conquer the world. He offers Gru a chance to join forces with him, saying that he has admired his work as a villain for years. However, a disgusted Gru turns down the offer and leaves with his daughters. Antonio has also left Margo for another girl, so Gru freezes him with his freeze ray. After they leave, Lucy arrives at the party because she has developed feelings for Gru.
Upon entering, she is ambushed by El Pollito who gets a hold of her purse and shows it to El Macho, inadvertently revealing that they both work for the Anti-Villain League. As a result, he tracks Lucy down and holds her captive. Eduardo : What do you think? Gru : [hides his eyes; disgusted] Look away! Lucy : [stares at Eduardo] You-Whoa Eduardo : Anyway, I have to go. It's all settled! I pick 'em up next week!
Have a good day. Come by if you get a chance, okay? Eduardo : One push of this button, and I send that rocket straight in the same volcano where I faked my death, only this time It's for real. Gru : [horrified] No! Dave : [swings on a vine like Tarzan and snatches the remote from El Macho's hands] Tally ho! Eduardo later leaves to his secret lair, tailed by Gru. Inside the lair, Gru is greeted by Eduardo, who reveals that he indeed faked his death.
Nefario also comes forth. They both explain their evil plan, which is turning all of of the Minions into purple, furry, mindless, indestructible, bloodthirsty killing machines that when unleashed the Evil Minions will destroy the world. El Macho offers Gru a partnership, but Gru declines. Returning to the party, Eduardo bumps into Lucy Wilde when she attends the party to find Gru. Picking up Pollito, who had just clucked at Lucy, he explains that Pollito isn't usually aggravated.
Then, when he noted Pollito had the same reaction with Gru, Eduardo discovers that Lucy and Gru are working for the AVL, so he takes Lucy hostage and straps her to a rocket. After the party, Eduardo, now is El Macho, brings his rockets to the surface to prepare his Evil Minions to be stuffed in the rockets to be ready to terrorize various countries. El Macho notices that Gru is turning the mutated Minions back to normal by shooting them with jelly that has the antidote serum PX mixed in.
Realizing that Gru has almost destroyed his entire plot, he kicks Tom to Gru in hopes of defeating him him, but Tom is cured instantly instead. Gru asks El Macho where Lucy is and he explains him that he will launch the rocket where Lucy is on to the same volcano where he faked his death.
Before El Macho can press the button to launch the rocket, a Minion takes it away from him and throws it away when tripped over, leaving it unreachable. El Macho, bemoaning that he and Gru are unable to work together, moves to kill the ex-villain by drinking a vial of PX and transforms into a very powerful monster With his belly soon slacked down, much to his embarrassment.
Gru attempts to take down the monster but realizes that he has ran out of the antidote jelly. The mutated El Macho roars and tries to smash and kill Gru and the latter tries to freeze El Macho with his Freeze Ray , but El Macho gets rid of the ice by smashing his arms against the ground, forcing Gru to hold onto a big metal pillar, which soon collapses and drops him. El Macho picks up the pillar to smash Gru, but the latter suddenly finds Lucy's lipstick taser in his pocket.
The shock passes from the metallic structure right to El Macho, disabling him instantly. As he lies defeated, angry minions close onto him with their jelly guns, of which El Macho claims not to be terrified of. Nefario, who has betrayed him earlier on, arrives and fires the Fart Gun, knocking out El Macho once and for all. After El Macho appears, the player's Minion must dodge his Evil Minions ' cage, and tap on the various chickens to hurl them back at him.
After hurling a couple of them back at him, or simply dodging, El Macho will be defeated as he slumps over and yells in a rage. In original game design, El Macho will still show up only while running in El Macho's Lair, much like with any other bosses in the game. After the July updates, El Macho only appears in some levels.
