He didn't want Phoenix in 4 but Capcom forced him to have him in. Then the team changed for 5 and 6 and they wanted Phoenix back so they had to change the tone to make it work. Oct 27, Don't like Phoenix's regression in 5 and 6, but the case quality in those games particularly Spirit of Justice, which I consider a return to form was worth it. Disbarring Phoenix and turning him into a poker-playing piano player was quite a shock. And the less I talk about the Mason System, and the fact that the final case boils down to a "Do you want to win" button , the better. There's also some gameplay elements, like perceive, which was kinda divisive between players. I personally like the mechanic, but hate how Apollo explains his ability to the witness.
It made heavy use of the DS's unique features, which not everyone liked, and yet kept some archaic elements from the original trilogy that weren't addressed until Dual Destinies. And why did they remove the ability to use character profiles as evidence to support my objections? I still like the game, perhaps a lot more than the majority of Ace Attorney fans.
