Ahh, the gray area. It's difficult, particularly so for younger children, to understand this concept. She's testing the line with you now that she's learned the two words- decide for yourself what the line is, tell her and stick to it. Teach her that it requires discretion to decide if it's really okay to tell a fib, and teach her that honesty is always the best default. Personally, I err on the honest side of the spectrum, but that's a personal decision.

She may be too young to differentiate, but you could try making a game of it. Create different situations and have her identify them as fib or lie. And depending on its scope and content, a lie can hurt like hell—after all, when you discover, for example, your boyfriend didn't really mean the words "I love you," one might justifiably compare that to taking a bullet. Many things affect your own lie-tolerance-levels.

Those quick to forgive—or even those apt to twist the truth in the tiniest ways themselves—may not find fibbing to be cause for any concern.
