What is the difference between afib and a lie

Ahh, the gray area. It's difficult, particularly so for younger children, to understand this concept. She's testing the line with you now that she's learned the two words- decide for yourself what the line is, tell her and stick to it. Teach her that it requires discretion to decide if it's really okay to tell a fib, and teach her that honesty is always the best default. Personally, I err on the honest side of the spectrum, but that's a personal decision.

A lie is saying something that is not honest, it is something that could hurt other people. A fib is also known as a white lie, something people usually say to get out of trouble. She may be too young to differentiate, but you could try making a game of it. Create different situations and have her identify them as fib or lie. She needs to understand that lies hurt people and create problems. Like Allison, I also lean towards honesty.

However, I think fibs are generally used to spare someone's feeling as opposed to avoiding an undesired task or getting out of trouble. Actually, I wouldn't use the word "fib".. For example, a fib might be, "I loved that movie," when in reality you would have poked your own eyes out just so you didn't have to see another minute of it.

A lie, on the other hand, feels heavier. It can be told to hide the truth , give a false impression, or deliberately manipulate someone. When a lie is discovered, it's not so easily justified.

And depending on its scope and content, a lie can hurt like hell—after all, when you discover, for example, your boyfriend didn't really mean the words "I love you," one might justifiably compare that to taking a bullet. Many things affect your own lie-tolerance-levels.

A man or women whose trust has been badly broken in the past might find a single fib grounds to leave a new relationship. Those quick to forgive—or even those apt to twist the truth in the tiniest ways themselves—may not find fibbing to be cause for any concern. A fib is often associated with childish tales when an older person has to conceal the truth because it is less important to a minor at that particular moment, according to TheFreeDictionary.

The Free Dictionary further describes a fib as a false statement that has no malicious intentions. Unlike a fib, most lies have negative consequences, such as legal, social, criminal and religious sanctions. In some communities, children are told fibs about how babies are purchased in supermarkets by their parents.
